For the BA minor ‘Conceptual Type Design’, graphic designer/typographer Hansje van Halem gave a workshop to the courses Graphic Design and Interaction Design. We were asked to create a letter out of paper. I was interested in leftover material, how a 3D presentation of a letter could be made out of little scraps of paper.
I started with a simple rounded h shape, but quickly I figured out a serif r would be much more intriguing, so I started building it from the ground up to see where the bulges would appear. The result is a pleasing organic shape that follows mathematic proportions.
